WHAT IS A LAPTOP HARD DRIVE?

Laptop hard drives

Hard drives in laptops....

The laptops have evolved significantly in recent years. Gone are the days of large and heavy computers, with a growing trend towards very slim, low-power devices and hybrids between tablets and laptops. As a result, mechanical hard drives in laptops have also evolved—becoming increasingly thinner, quieter, and more energy-efficient. Likewise, solid-state drives (SSDs) in laptops have evolved as well, moving from initial sizes of 2.5” to, in many cases, having the hard drive integrated into the laptop’s motherboard, thus eliminating the possibility of upgrading or replacing the unit.

TIPS TO AVOID LOSING DATA

Laptops offer mobility for work and leisure in a world where nothing stands still. And although laptops are becoming more and more robust, they are also often delicate because of how thin they are. If the laptop has a mechanical hard disk it is important to remember not to hit the laptop (drop it on the table or backpack for example), not to carry it switched on from one side to another and to be careful when working with it.

If the hard disk is of the solid state type, the above tips may be less important, but not undesirable. Also, remember that SSDs can fail due to prolonged use.

In addition, in the case of a solid state hard disk or SSD inside a laptop it is necessary to understand that there are different types and technologies such as SATA, NVMe PCI-e and each of them is associated with different types of failures that make it more or less difficult to recover lost data in this type of disks.
In many of them default encryption systems are used as BITLOCKER (Windows) or the PID system that links the SSD to the electronic board of the laptop. Without the keys stored on the electronic board, data recovery cannot be performed. It is important that these keys are stored correctly.

To avoid further damage to the device:

Turn off the device as soon as possible. It will prevent further damage that may condition the recovery process.

Do not tamper with the device. Forcing screws, or opening it in an uncontrolled, dust-free environment can adversely affect the chances of recovery. Remember that the inner parts are very sensitive and delicate.

The use of recovery software in physical cases may permanently damage the device. Avoid using it in such cases.

Contact a data recovery laboratory. These are the professionals who have the tools and adequate training to be able to evaluate and carry out the data extraction and recovery processes.

PRICES FOR DATA RECOVERY FROM LAPTOP HARD DRIVES

The price to recover data from laptop hard drives will always depend on the damage the device has suffered, along with the work hours and technical equipment required to carry out the data recovery processes.

In any case, a preliminary diagnosis is necessary to identify the type of failure or combination of failures. Below, we detail the most common issues and reference prices:

element
From €250 to €450 / + vat

For logic or board faults:

  • Problems accessing damaged partitions, bad sectors or surface degradation / Burned electronic boards / damaged by short circuits, incorrect voltages or burned components
From €350 to €690 / + vat

For Firmware failures

  • Internal disk SW corrupted. Damaged modules.
From €450 to €890 / + vat

For engine breakdowns

  • Over temperature or motor unit failure.
From €450 to €890 / + vat

For head failures

  • Surface degradation or reader unit failure.

Prices for laptop hard disk data recovery will depend on several factors, the main one being the type of device in the laptop (mechanical hard disk, SSD hard disk or SSD hard disk integrated in the laptop’s electronic board).

If they are mechanical hard disks, it will depend on the type of disk technology (mechanical hard disk section) (PMR or SMR) and the type of failure (firmware, heads, motor, etc.). If the hard disk is an SSD it will depend on the damaged components (SSD hard disk section) and the type of failure associated with them.

In case the disk is integrated in the electronic board, the recovery process will be more difficult since most of the information will be encrypted by the laptop controller itself, in addition to the SSD encryption. In addition, additional encryption such as BITLOCKER or those used through the SSD’s own PID must be taken into account. Without these codes, the information decryption process will not be possible. There are many factors that condition the price of a laptop hard disk until the analysis has been carried out.

WHAT DEVICES CAN WE RECOVER AT LABY LABORATORIES?

Data Recovery from Mechanical Hard

HDD disks have as main components the metal plates (disks), where the data is stored, and the heads that are responsible for accessing the information. The most common hard disk.

SSD Hard Drive Recovery

SSDs do not move, hence the name solid state. The information is stored in blocks and no headers are required to access it. It is much more efficient and faster than an HDD hard disk.

External Hard Disk Drive Recovery

External hard disks allow us to store outside the computer all the important information of which we want to make a backup copy. But one failure can cause us to lose all this data.

iPhone, iPad, iMac or MacBook

Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook, Mac Mini, etc. They are reliable, elegant, powerful and easy to use.

Laptop Hard Drive Data Recovery

On the laptop hard disk we store important work or home information. If a failure occurs, it can cause us to lose all this valuable personal data.

Data Recovery NAS, SAN and

A SAN, NAS or DAS disk is a compact enclosure consisting of several hard disks that are connected via a network cable to the system, hence the common name network hard disk.

Data recovery from RAID systems

RAID disks are a redundant group of independent disks. They can be HDD disks or SSD disks and together they form a storage system to distribute or replicate data.

Recovery of USB Flash Drives

Pen drives or USB flash drives consist of one or more memory blocks. They work in many cases like SSD devices (same Flash technology).

Memory Card Recovery

Memory cards are used to store information from devices such as cameras, cell phones or tablets. They differ in their storage capacity and read/write speed.

Ransomware or Virus Recovery

We recover data encrypted with viruses or ransomware. Ransomware is extortive software: its purpose is to prevent you from using your device until you have paid a ransom. Depending on the type of ransomware, either the entire operating system or only some files are encrypted.

Mobile and Tablet Recovery

In mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, recovery processes can be performed by analyzing the electronics of the damaged components or by performing the chip off process.
